The Role of the Safeguarding Governor

Outline

This workshop provides an opportunity for governors to explore their own views regarding the protection of children as well as outlining the responsibilities of the governing board. Feedback from the sessions is always excellent.

Description

The session will focus on:
  • The Ofsted Inspection Framework in relation to Safeguarding in Schools taking into account the rigour of the Governing Boards procedures to ensure the health and safety and well-being of staff and pupils.
  • Legislation and guidance in relation to safeguarding.
  • The role of the governing board and Designated Senior Persons in context.
  • E-Safety - The roles and responsibilities of governors in developing a safer working culture in schools.

Outcomes

The Department for Education (DfE) has published an updated version of the statutory guidance Keeping children safe in education (2018), which revises and replaces the 2016 guidance. This came in force for schools in September 2018. It sets out what schools and colleges in England must do to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people under the age of 18.
This guidance is for head teachers, teachers, education staff and governing boards.
