Sefton School Improvement Team are facilitating this session, delivered by the Babcock LDP team and presented by Stephanie Burke, Primary Maths Adviser.
When supporting children who are working below age related expectation it is most effective if the focus is on noticing things, using what you know and making connections. In other words the support is best if it focuses on developing understanding, mathematical thinking and reasoning. This session will explore how children can best be supported to develop their reasoning and so understand age-related mathematics. There will be a particular focus on understanding how multiple representations (including concrete, pictorial and abstract: CPA) can be used to support understanding of mathematical structures. In addition new research about the positive impact of teacher led pre-teaching will be explored.
Lunch will NOT be provided. Delegates who book and fail to attend will be charged.
Primary teachers. This training will be particularly useful for subject leaders or assessment co-ordinators who are planning maths interventions.
