Practical, INSPIRING training for engaging SEND pupils in Mathematics delivered by Linda Lavagna-Slater, Independent Mathematics Consultant, NCTEM accredited CPD Provider, Workgroup Lead for North West Three Maths Hub

Key Features of Teaching for Maths Mastery and Implications for SEND pupils as well as approaches to supporting pupils to develop counting skills. Number sense will also be explored.

Description

Outline of the day's themes:
Supporting SEND pupils in the mastery context (exploring the 5 Big Ideas and how these can support teaching mathematics to SEND pupils)
Early counting (develop pedagogical knowledge and understanding of the early stages of children's development of counting) and activities to develop counting
Diagnostic assessment to find out what the children CAN DO
Number Sense: being aware of the key concepts for children to understand to become fluent with number thought the use of visual models and practical materials

Outcomes

Using assessment to build on prior mathematical knowledge
An understanding of the pedagogy supporting early mathematical development
A range of practical strategies and resources to develop mathematical skills of SEND learners
