This course is an important element of governor induction and it is recommended that all newly appointed governors attend. The course covers the essential aspects of a governing board’s roles and responsibilities.
Each session will explore the key roles of the governing board as outlined in the Governance handbook; ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction, holding the head teacher to account for the educational performance of the school and the pupils, and the performance management of staff, and overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.
There will be an opportunity to raise any questions about your role and also time for you to discuss how best to approach your role as a governor. This is aimed at newly appointed governors; however those wishing to update their skills would be most welcome to attend. The session is interactive and will enable you to network and share your experiences to date.
